Excellent Hannover Fair

Buoyant mood at HARTING

Hanover/Espelkamp, April 28, 2006.

The HARTING Technology Group enjoyed a triumphant week at the Trade Fair. A fantastic start – winning the Hermes Award 2006 the previous Sunday evening – was followed by five successful Trade Fair days. A total of nearly 2,000 trade visitors flocked to the HARTING stand in Hall 11. The Automation IT stand in Hall 17, hosted jointly by Cisco Systems and HARTING as well as 23 other partners, also attracted large numbers of fairgoers and trade visitors. An entire Ethernet network from office through production level was showcased there for the first time.

Before the event started, the entrepreneurs Dietmar and Margrit Harting had the opportunity to meet Federal Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and India’s Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Both these leading politicians also attended the opening ceremony and were on hand during the presentation of the Hermes Award. Dr. Michael Burmeister, Managing Director of HARTING Mitronics AG from Biel (Switzerland), a subsidiary of the HARTING Group, accepted the 100,000 euro technology prize from Germany’s Research Minister, Dr. Annette Schavan.

HARTING also impressed visitors to the Hannover Messe with its new line “Connectivity & Networks“. Dietmar Harting presented the concept at the HARTING press conference. As a family owned and managed company, HARTING has stood for continuity and growth for over 60 years, and now the company is also staking its claim and showing its colors as a technology leader.

The Hermes Award took pride of place on the staircase in Hall 11. Visitors had the opportunity to see the RFID transponder in action at both stands. The latest developments in connectors and system solutions were also on display.

How does Industrial Ethernet work? NDR moderator Julia Westlake explored the fundamentals of this question at the HARTING stand, where she led a daily presentation alongside HARTING employees, explaining the triple aspects of Connectivity & Networks: installation technology (conventional HARTING area), system connection technology and networking.

At the HARTING goal wall, customers and fairgoers attempted to shoot the perfect goal. After three hits on the “intelligent” HARTING goal (the shots were computed using RFID transponders!), scorers were presented with a real HARTING football or a fluffy plush ball.

A number of VIPs visited the HARTING exhibition stands in Hanover, including Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Wolfgang Wahlster (CEO of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence), Christa Thoben (NRW Finance Minister), Edelgard Bulmahn (Chairperson of the Technology and Industry Committee), Ute Berg (MP), Ulrike Flach (MP), Dr. h. c. Herbert Schmalstieg (Mayor of Hanover), Michael Buhre (Mayor of Minden) and Heinrich Vieker (Mayor of Espelkamp).

“We are delighted at the outstanding success of the Hannover Messe and the high visitor numbers both our stands have attracted. Of course we’re especially thrilled about winning the Hermes Award. This accolade gave us and our employees a generous measure of additional incentive right at the start of the Trade Fair,” said Dietmar and Margrit Harting. “We shall always have happy memories of the 2006 Trade Fair.”
