The trip to Asia that Philip Harting embarked on at the beginning of last week was a very special one.

Invited by Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Philip Harting joined the small economic delegation that accompanied the Foreign Minister on his trip to Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam. The purpose of the trip was to intensify relations with the growth region of Asia.

During their visit to Asia, the members of the economic delegation had an opportunity to hold in-depth talks with representatives of industry and the government of the countries visited. “It is important to maintain and intensify our relations with discussion partners of the industrial and government sector, since Asia is one of the world’s fastest growing and most interesting economic regions”, emphasized Philip Harting during his trip with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During their stay in Hanoi, Vietnam, the members of the economic delegation also took a thorough look at the infrastructural framework of the country’s medical sector. In order to provide immediate relief and assist the Hanoi-based Viet Duc Hospital quickly and with a minimum of red tape, the members of the delegation handed over a cheque for US$ 40,000 to the clinic’s management. This donation by the members of the economic delegation will be used to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and, hence, Hanoi’s medical care system.

The three South East Asian countries are familiar territory for Philip Harting, since – in his capacity as Managing Director for Asia – he has been responsible for the development of the Asian business of the HARTING Technology Group since 2005. The company, having continually internationalized its business since the 1980s, has also been represented with a subsidiary in Singapore since 1998. During his stay in Asia, Philip Harting managed to establish and intensify numerous business contacts with local companies and to substantially extend business relations in neighboring countries as well. Since March 1, 2008, Philip Harting has been a member of HARTING’s Board of Management responsible for Connectivity & Networks and in charge of strategically extending the HARTING Technology Group on a global scale.
