Smart Connectivity/IIoT

It’s 7 am.  Your alarm rings.  It sends a signal to your coffee pot to start your favorite brew in 15 minutes.  You leave at 7:30.  At 7:45, sensors check for movement or digital signatures from your phone.  It knows no one is home.  Lights you left on turn off.  Your thermostat adjusts its temperature.  At 5:30, you open your garage, which tells your lights to turn back on.  Your thermostat already has the house at your favorite temperature.

This is the Internet of Things (IoT) - the convergence of physical objects with IT (Information Technology) concepts.  The IoT makes physical objects “smart” and capable of self-monitoring or making decisions autonomously.

The IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) applies IoT concepts with hardware suited for applications in harsh environments. Industry 4.0 is a subsection of the IIoT that applies to manufacturing and Smart Factories. Smart connectivity is the physical building blocks of the IoT and IIoT and is comprised of standalone and embedded device sensors and processors that generate data and execute decisions made by software/PLCs.

HARTING’s has proven expertise in the fields of reliable connectivity solutions since 1945 – and now is leading the development of smart connectivity solutions for IIoT.
